Wedding Recreated For The Residents At Holmer Court Care Home

Love was in the air again for a couple who work at Holmer Court Care Home in Hereford when their wedding day was recreated at the home.

Evelyn, Deputy Manager and Richard, Maintenance Manager who officially married two weeks ago were delighted when the Home Manager Claire suggested they retied the knot at the home, so all the residents could join in the celebrations.

Claire explained “We’re a close-knit community and as the residents couldn’t go to the wedding, it just felt right to bring the wedding to them and recreate the magic of the day at Holmer Court.”

Once the event was scheduled, residents helped Activity Coordinators Jasmine and Sarah with the preparations to make the day possible including creating the Order of Service comprising of hymns and excerpts from the bible. The patio had a makeover too using the colour theme from the actual wedding to create the setting complete with wedding arch and wedding table.

Homemade invitations were sent to each of the 33 residents, the dining team created a special wedding buffet and Activities Coordinator Jasmine baked the wedding cake.

Lead Activities Coordinator Becky who led the preparations said, “I spent a few sleepless nights making sure everything was covered for the day.”

In true wedding style, staff and residents dressed in their finest outfits including hats that were kindly loaned from The Hereford Hospice shop.

With the sun shining resident Eileen walked Evelyn down the aisle with staff members Jenny and Tracey as bridesmaids and Da as Maid of Honour to “A thousand years“ by Christina Perry which was used in the actual wedding day ceremony. Receptionist & Admin Assistant Sue officiated the event with residents Ann and June and Home Manager Claire reading out the prayers.

While the happy couple signed the register, resident Joan led staff and other residents in song with  “If you were the only girl in the world.”

To toast the happy couple Elderflower fizz, created by the residents, was served while the wedding couple danced their first dance to “And I love you so “ by Elvis Presley, which was followed by a wedding buffet in the dining room and dancing to old time favourites.

The event finished with Richard and Evelyn having photographs with staff and all residents, even those who could not make the ceremony.

Bride Evelyn said “It was such a beautiful day especially seeing how happy it made the residents. Thank you everyone.”
